Stuck on U Sketch Blog Hop: Laugh

Hello to all!  Welcome to another small part of the exciting Blog Hop by Stuck on U Sketches that begins this weekend. Here is the sketch we used...

This is my translation...

My husband bought an antique bike that Justin and his friends had to try out.  They had a ball trying to ride it . It is not as easy as it looks.   Peope in that era had to of been in great shape.

I varied from the sketch but, only a little.  Instead of banners all the way down the side, I shortened them to make room for the tree and bike die cut.   The papers were from My Minds Eye and their "The Sweetest Thing" collection.  The die cuts are from Silhouette.  The stickers are from Bo Bunny.  The enamel dots are from Prima.   Here are some more of the design details...

Mirroring the images in your picture with die cuts provides unity in design.

Here I made the tree and bike.

They were laughing so I used that for the title.  The title wasn't showing up well enough so, I made a frame to go around it to give it more emphaisis and to bring in the color gold to mirror what was up top.

Embellish your die cuts to unify the desing to your page.

Here I took a small scrap and wrapped it around the bike to make streamers in the colors of the page.  It gave it more purpose in the die cut and the bike then did not stick out like a sore thumb like it did without that small element. It is now part of the picture.

Here, I added enamel dots and a flower to the banners to give them emphasis and to complete another triangle to give focus to the picture and to balance the colors of brown
and gold that are in the bike and title

Give your embellishments purpose by placing them where they pull focus to where you want it.

I layered the bike on the good times label that is under the bike in the photo.  Without the die cut, the bike totally escapes you when you first look at the picture.
 .

Place clusters of embellishments in a triangle around the photo

Here is one of the triangles in this design. Do you see the others?

What I am hoping you walk away with, after viewing this, is that it is fun and effective to use die cuts and embellishments  to  give them purpose to the overall designs of your page other than just filling it.   Here, I did so by selection, placement, embellishment  and color.

Next on the list is awesome Stephanie.  Head over to her blog next to see what she has done with the sketch.

Thanks for stopping by.
